Booklet Creep Calculator

Estimate the maximum outward creep of a saddle-stitched booklet. Use measured sheet caliper in mm.

Enter values, then calculate.

Calculation method

Maximum creep = (page count ÷ 4 − 1) × sheet caliper. A 64-page booklet on 0.10 mm stock has 16 sheets and an estimated 1.50 mm maximum creep.

Assumptions and limitations

This estimate assumes saddle stitching and uniform stock. Folding, compression, trimming, grain direction and press workflow can change the final compensation.

When to use this calculator

Use this Booklet Creep Calculator when a production decision needs a repeatable numerical check.

Inputs explained

Read each input as a job specification and keep units explicit.

Calculation method and formula

The calculator applies the displayed input relationship and rounds only the displayed result.

Worked example

Replace the example values with measured job values and retain the calculation record.

How to interpret the result

Use the result as the next production decision, not as a press approval.

Production considerations

Review stock, equipment, finishing sequence and job tolerances before release.

Common mistakes

Mixing units or omitting an allowance is the most common error.

Limitations

Supplier specifications and equipment conditions can change the final result.
