RFID & NFC Smart Label Production
Move from approved item identity and digital payload to repeatable inlay alignment, printer position and released good-label quantity without hiding the assumptions.
Smart-label workflow tools
SGTIN-96 EPC Encoder / Decoder
Translate a valid GTIN and numeric serial into the 96-bit EPC used by many RAIN RFID label jobs, or audit an existing EPC.
NFC NDEF Memory Estimator
Count the actual record, payload and Type 2 TLV bytes before selecting an NFC inlay or releasing content.
RFID Label Pitch Drift Checker
Show how a small difference between printed repeat and inlay pitch accumulates across a converting or encoding run.
RFID Encode Position Converter
Convert a measured inlay position into millimetres, inches and printer dots while making rounding visible.
RFID Encoding Throughput Planner
Plan starting tags, expected retries, voids and runtime from measured first-pass and retry performance.
Why these tools belong in one workflow
A conventional printed label can be approved visually. A smart label also carries machine-readable identity or content inside an inlay. The job can therefore fail while the face printing looks correct: an EPC can represent the wrong GTIN, an NFC message can exceed usable memory, an inlay can drift away from the printed repeat, or an encoder can void enough labels to miss the released quantity. These five tools address those separate production decisions in order.
Where to start
For UHF RAIN RFID, begin with the SGTIN-96 tool only when the customer has supplied a GS1 Company Prefix length, GTIN, filter policy and serialization rule. For NFC, begin with the exact URI or text payload and the inlay's documented usable NDEF capacity. In both cases, measure the converted roll rather than relying only on nominal drawings before entering pitch and encode position.
Production release sequence
- Approve the identity or NDEF content independently of artwork.
- Encode a short test run and read every tag back.
- Measure printed label pitch, inlay pitch and leading-edge-to-inlay position.
- Calibrate the exact printer, media and inlay combination.
- Record first-pass yield, retry recovery and void count before estimating the production reserve.
Limits of a browser planning workflow
These tools do not communicate with a printer, write a physical tag, choose RF power, predict read range or certify GS1 compliance. Metal, liquids, antenna orientation, reader geometry, chip sensitivity, adhesive construction and firmware all affect real performance. Treat the results as an auditable setup sheet and confirm them with encoded samples and the relevant printer/inlay technical documentation.
Guide and adjacent production planning
Use the RFID & NFC Smart Label Production Guide for commissioning and handoff checks. Roll inventory geometry remains in Roll Length and Roll Media Yield; those pages do not replace smart-label identity or encode-yield controls. Last reviewed: 2026-09-02.
